Learn Professional Magic in Boston at Improv Asylum’s Magic School

May 5, 2026

For the first time ever, Improv Asylum is pulling back the curtain on professional magic.

This spring, Asylum Magic School brings a brand-new kind of class to Boston: a 7-week course in real-world magic taught by acclaimed Australian magician Christopher Wayne. Classes run Tuesdays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, May 19 through June 30, 2026, at Improv Asylum in Boston’s North End.

This is not a class full of kid’s tricks, cheesy bar bets, or throwaway gimmicks. It’s a hands-on introduction to practical, impressive magic you can actually use. Whether you want to amaze friends, surprise coworkers, perform for strangers, or simply understand how professional magic really works, this class is built to give you the tools, confidence, and technique to do it.

What Is Asylum Magic School?

Asylum Magic School is a new professional magic class from Improv Asylum, taught by celebrity magician Christopher Wayne.

Across seven weeks, students will learn real tricks, sleight-of-hand, mind-reading effects, stage magic, and the theory behind how professional magicians create moments that feel impossible. The course is designed for adults who want to build a new social skill, sharpen their performance instincts, or explore the mechanics of magic in a fun, approachable environment.

You do not need prior magic experience. You just need curiosity, a willingness to practice, and a desire to learn something that instantly makes you more interesting at a party.

Learn From Celebrity Magician Christopher Wayne

Christopher Wayne is one of Australia’s most accomplished magicians, and he is bringing his professional experience to Improv Asylum for this limited-run course.

Students will get direct instruction from a working professional who understands not only how tricks are done, but how to make them feel unforgettable. That distinction matters. Great magic is not just about knowing the secret. It is about timing, confidence, misdirection, audience connection, and the ability to turn a small moment into something people talk about long after it happens.

That is what this class is about.

What You’ll Learn

Asylum Magic School gives students a practical foundation in several areas of professional magic, including:

  • Professional card tricks and advanced card handling
  • Sleight-of-hand using everyday objects
  • Mind-reading effects that feel impossible
  • Stage magic techniques
  • Stagecraft skills that also apply to public speaking, presenting, and entertaining

The course is designed to help you perform in real life, not just understand magic in theory. You will learn tricks and techniques you can use with friends, strangers, coworkers, or a full room.

No Kid’s Tricks. No Bar Bets. Real Magic.

There is a big difference between knowing a trick and creating a moment.

Asylum Magic School is focused on magic that feels polished, smart, and genuinely impressive. The goal is not to teach you a few forgettable gags. The goal is to help you understand how professional magic works, why audiences react the way they do, and how to perform with confidence.

That makes this class a great fit for performers, comedy fans, public speakers, sales professionals, team leaders, teachers, or anyone who wants to become more comfortable holding a room’s attention.

And yes, it is also perfect for anyone who has always secretly wanted to learn magic.

Every Student Gets a Magician’s Pack

Every student in Asylum Magic School will receive a Magician’s Pack filled with professional props they can use outside the classroom.

That means you will not leave with just notes and ideas. You will leave with tools you can use to start performing in the real world.

Why Take a Magic Class at Improv Asylum?

Improv Asylum has built its reputation on live performance, comedy, audience connection, and making people comfortable in unpredictable moments. Magic lives in that same space.

A great magician needs timing. They need presence. They need to listen, adjust, and connect. Those are the same skills that make improv, comedy, and live entertainment work.

That makes Improv Asylum the perfect place to learn magic. You are not just learning tricks. You are learning how to perform them in a way that gets a real reaction.
