FAQs
Where are you located? Do you have more than one location?
The theatre is located at 216 Hanover Street. We can’t wait to see you there!
Where can I park? Do you validate?
WE HAVE OPTIONS!
We validate parking at the Haymarket Center Garage at 136 Blackstone Street.
Validated parking is $3 for three hours – just bring your ticket to our box office to get scanned! No need to reserve, first come first served.
Doing dinner before or after your show, or just looking to visit the North End longer? Pre-purchase parking at Dock Square Garage and pay $22 for 5 hours at the Dock Square Garage at 20 Clinton Street. Parking MUST be reserved in advance – you can do that here.
How early do I need to get there?
This is very important! Please arrive 30 minutes prior to show time. This will allow you time to get through the lines at the box office, restrooms, bar, and theater. Shows start promptly at the scheduled time. If you are not in your seat when the performance starts, you may be asked to wait in the lobby until the next seating opportunity (5-7 minutes).
What time are your shows? What is the schedule?
Check out the Show Schedule under the “Shows” tab at the top page for show start times. Please be aware that on some nights there are multiple show times.
Who's playing tonight?
Improv Asylum is not a stand-up club. Every Improv Asylum show features a cast of professional actors who perform a blend of improv, sketch, and musical comedy. Each show has five to six actors, a musician, and a technician. With shows being predominantly improv, every show is COMPLETELY different making it even more desirable for you to come back whenever you want, as much as you want.
How long do your shows run?
Most of our shows are approximately 90-minutes long, including a brief intermission unless otherwise noted. Our alternative programming shows (Thursday 9:30pm/10pm shows or Raunch at 11:30pm on Saturdays) are approximately an hour long.
Any Trigger Warnings I Should Be Aware Of?
Yes!
Our shows feature flashing lights and sudden, loud music that some people may find unsettling.
Our shows are mostly improvised – suggestions yelled by audience members and scenes within the show may be upsetting. Using movie rating terminology, most of our shows are considered somewhere between PG-13 to R-rated. Our late-night Saturday show, Raunch, is DEFINITELY rated R.
What is your show rated? May children see the show? Is your show 21+? Is there an age limit?
Our shows are generally rated PG-13 and we do not allow children under the age of 10 to attend our evening performances (unless otherwise noted – we do occasionally have family-appropriate shows!)
While our actors by default don’t tend to play gross or gratuitously, we’re never in charge of who’s in the audience. And, because it’s improv, we ask for suggestions throughout the show. Most people are pretty well behaved, but every now and then someone in the audience yells out something inappropriate when they think they’re being funny and the show can get a little naughty.
We can’t make any guarantees, but typically the earlier show, the more family-friendly it is!
Can we all sit together?
Seating is General Admission, so yes! But, make sure you arrive early and your whole group enters the theater together so we can do our best to seat you together. The earlier you arrive and enter the theater, the more likely we’ll be able to get you to sit with your whole crew.
For parties of 7 or more who want to ensure they’re together, please purchase “Guaranteed Group Seating” tickets on the check-out page.
Can I buy tickets at the door?
Do I have to purchase them when I call or can I just reserve them?
What if I want to pay cash? Can I reserve it and pay cash at the door?

What should I do before/after the show?
Um, cannolis? Improv Asylum is located in Boston’s North End (our Little Italy) and is surrounded by some of the best Italian food in the country. Some of our favorites include: Bricco, Lucca, Mare, Antico Forno, Benevento’s and Modern Pastry. (Pro Tip: Grab cannolis to go and eat them in our bar room with a craft cocktail! The perfect combo.
